Flying Cranes Julien Viard Powder Jar c1920s

Large white lacquered jewlery box decorated with gilded flying cranes against a white crackled background. Although the Viard powder box/jar is French and the jewelry box is from Japan. The lacquered box consists of a lid and a removable black lacquer tray, and it measures approximately 8 inches long, 5 inches tall and 6 inches wide. The bottom bears a U.S. Customs sticker and a sticker reading "Trademark Made of K. Yazawa Co. Shidzuoka Japan" and another sticker reading "Shidzuoka Japan".

The signed Viard glass powder box measures approximately 4 inches in diameter and standing approximately 2-1/2 inches tall. This piece of glass artwork has eight sides, each adorned with uniquely posed flying cranes (the symbol of longevity) encased in 22k gold. The top is a delicate combination of frosted glass with a clear etched floral pattern surrounding the cranes, giving it a lot of added sparkle. The bottom is stamped "J. VIARD" and "MADE IN FRANCE".
